Ella, Cuba y cruces culturales

Nelson Ramos Sandoval (Cuba)

Cora Rosso (Cuba)

The Alianza Francesa de México, a Franco-Mexican cultural center, together with La Mille, an art curator and representative of international artists, presents an exhibition featuring the works of Cora Rosso (Cuba) and Nelson Ramos Sandoval (Cuba).

This project explores the significant relationship with women from intercultural perspectives, highlighting the importance of roots and personal experiences. Both artists live in their respective adopted countries while maintaining a strong connection to their homeland, which remains the foundation of their deep artistic inspiration.

Cora Rosso stands out for her fusion of cultural elements from both her native Cuba and Mexico, where she is currently based. Her work reflects her personal experience navigating between coexisting worlds—a vibrant testimony between the tangible and intangible, form and content, abstraction and figuration—often placing women at the center in their thousand and one ways of being. Following Voltaire’s premise, "La perfection est l’ennemi du beau" ("Perfection is the enemy of the good"), and blending bicultural influences, she nurtures her artistic vision through her inner journey, memories, and nocturnal dreams, where figures visit and communicate with her in a personal space, transforming her works into universal realms.

Nelson Ramos Sandoval crossed borders for love, settling in Germany, where he is known for his surrealist works with intense colors and his commitment to social, philosophical, and spiritual themes. His art incorporates elements of Expressionism, Cubism, and symbolic currents that celebrate Afro-Cuban heritage, connecting with ancestral stories and mystical deities filled with profound meaning for those who know how to look. He defines himself as a bridge of dialogue, where women—sometimes his own partner—become a central and universal identity in all their complexity, serving as one of his primary sources of inspiration.

This artistic project dares to pay homage to the countless interpretations of women in converging cultural encounters, without censorship or embellishment, where femininity is presented in its raw and real state. The connection between Cuba and the world, shaped by each artist’s singular experience, will manifest in a visual revelation of guarded secrets, jealous enigmas, and timid mysteries for those who take the time to observe their works. The beauty of the human experience, intertwined with the importance of preserving cultural origins, will be emphasized through the interpretation of women’s facets and figures, creating a fascinating intercultural artistic discovery.

Ella, Cuba y cruces culturales (She, Cuba, and Cultural Crossings) invites viewers to immerse themselves and (re)discover the world and womanhood through an artistic, sensory, and emotional experience. Through the collaboration between the Alianza Francesa de México and La Mille, the exhibition seeks to strengthen the presence of Cora Rosso and Nelson Ramos Sandoval, two intriguing and moving voices, on the international contemporary art scene while provoking meaningful dialogues on the themes their works explore.
