ELLES is a contemporary project at the Salomon Arts Gallery in New York, where the artworks of Ali Alvares (Dominican Republic), Oscar Carvallo (Venezuela-France), Olga Novokhatska (Ukraine), and Rodolfo Oviedo Vega (El Salvador) converge.
Above all, the roots, the roots of a beginning?, or the roots of the place we can call home?, intertwined with where we belong or wish to be part of, it reflects the primordial essence of the world: the woman, in her infinite versions, as a tribute.
On one hand, they flow with their belongings from their lands, origins, and life choices that shape them as individuals and artists; on the other hand, they narrow the vision of the female concept.
The artists present a work that is fundamentally projected in multiculturalism, woven with their deep ties to Francophone countries, especially represented in this exhibition by France and Haiti. They dance with an exploratory sensitivity, encompassing sculpture, painting, drawing, texture, and composition. Thus, they dive into a poetic, philosophical, and symbolic visual experience that will be manifested and revealed to those who are willing to embrace the subtle details.
Ali revisited her island partagée between two soils, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, taking her research to a conceptual level that brings everyone closer to what the “other motherland” seems so distant in all aspects: language, politics, culture, environment. It is a symbolic recognition of the beauty despite of the differences, challenges, and the elements.
Oscar, the timeless bridge between memories and sensations, is the surrealist magician of élégance, manipulating the creations of his colors and the appearances of his female figures, representing French royalty and assigning them the representation derived from all the incarnations they might have. His portraits unveil subtle meanings, tradition, and values.
Olga pursues freedom à la française, among the rainy Parisian streets, under trees blown by the breeze, and in places where time halts for a café en terrasse. Realism caresses movement and captures emotion.
Rodolfo rises through historical narratives of resilience and persistence with tangible references. Being an abstract artist by nature, in this occasion, he stands out for his direct allusion to the female struggle, drawing inspiration from the ear of corn in his latest collection, intrinsically connecting to the corn plantations of Les Landes, France.
ELLES unfolds through its conceptual, sensitive, and sensory facets, through diverse, poetic, and profound perspectives that reveal to us, in every stroke, in every shape, in every work, the vital connection between land, culture, and womanhood.
